LPR: Quickstart Guide for Patrollers

LPR: Quickstart Guide for Patrollers

Quick Start:

1. The mobile app can be downloaded from the Google Play Store by searching Roker Patrol, or you can find it at the following link:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.roker.plus.android.patrol&hl=en&gl=US

Be sure to set up automatic updates so that the app is always running the latest version: running old versions of the app can cause problems.

2. Open the Roker Patrol app and login with your credentials.

3. In the app, select a location.

If you will be enforcing underground or somewhere with poor connection, you can go to Settings -> Offline Mode before you go underground to put the app into Offline mode. You must have selected a location and loaded all active sessions under that location first for this to work.

4. Click on Launch Scanner when you've chosen your location. Once you "launch scanner", you can start scanning your first plate: (you can change to landscape, or from landscape to portrait mode, under Settings > LPR)

Note that the scanner will be more accurate if you scan from the top of the license plate down, rather from side-to-side. As it scans quite quickly, scanning from side-to-side may have LPR read only read the plate partially.

If applicable, you can adjust the license plate box (the one with the white corners in the image above) with your fingers to a desired size. When scanning, this box is what will be used to read the plates, so you will need to ensure the entire license plate is in the box.

5. All scans will result in a confirmation screen. If the plate is correct, simply press the green arrow. If the plate is incorrect, you can click directly on the license plate and edit the result of the plate with your keyboard, then hit the green check to correct.

6. Active sessions will pop up at the top of your screen when scanning a plate. At the top of the screen, it will indicate the active session plate number, and stall number (see in below screenshot).

Tire Chalking

In the search bar at the top, enter in the license plate number. There may be 2 scenarios:

  1. A blue, green, yellow or red pops up with the plate info: this means there is currently an active session and there is no need to create a chalking session.
  2. A box with a "Submit Digital Chalking" button pops up.

If you're prompted to submit a digital chalking, go ahead and do so. There are two outcomes; if the plate has not been previously chalking within the reset time, you'll be left on the location results screen and can continue to enforce. If you are taken to the License Plate Details screen and there is no data for that location under the Permit Parking or Active Parking Sessions boxes, this plate was previously chalked, is still within the reset time and can be issued a violation.

Multiple Plates on a Permit

When a plate is scanned on the Roker Patrol app, patrollers are able to view if there are multiple plates on the permit, and when each plate session was last active.

Launch the scanner to scan plates. When there are multiple vehicles on a permit, it will indicate at the top of the screen the plate number, permit number, and stall.

Under "recent scans' it will indicate any recent scans attached to that permit, along with the plate that was scanned.

If you click on the pop up, you are able to review additional information on the permit, and vehicles attached to the permit.

Confidence Levels

Confidence percentage is how the LPR scanner determines the probability of a plate being read correctly. Currently, we've set the Confidence at 85% which has been tested to work well for most instances, but if you notice that the scanner reads plates incorrectly quite often - without asking you to verify - then you can adjust to a lower percentage.

The higher the percentage, the less often you'll be asked to verify plates. If you set the percentage to 95% for instance, LPR will be certain that 95% of the plates are being read correctly.
